General Information on English Country Dance
English Country dancing is a form of partner dancing that is similar to contra dancing but has a greater variety of tempos and figures. An English Country Dance typically includes waltz-time dances and lively dances with skipping and energetic stepping. The dances are done in various forms - circles, squares, lines and sets. English Country dancing dates back to the 17th century and appealed to the likes of Elizabeth I and Henry VIII. These dances are not historic relics but are enjoyed today because of their interesting figures and wonderful music.
